Book Club Table Setting Idea You’ll Love

For just about two years now, I’ve been lucky enough to be part of a Book Club. Some may say it’s more of a Supper Club or even a Wine Club— but who’s checking? Once a month we gather, we eat, we sip wine or martinis, and yes, we talk about books. We also get into the best binge-worthy series and podcast recommendations. Honestly, it’s the best kind of fun to have with a group of girls!

Why do I feel like I lucked out on the book club front? Because I was never much of a reader—until I discovered Audible. My husband is convinced that listening to a book doesn’t count as reading, but I absolutely, 100% disagree. Over the last five or so years, I’ve managed to listen to at least one book per month. Sometimes I read (ok, listen to) three books a month. And recently I’ve even picked up a hard copy or three and finished these too. It brings me so much joy to immerse myself in stories in a way that actually works for me.

So, if you’ve ever considered joining a book club, I’m here to say: you absolutely should. Book Club is the perfect excuse to gather around a beautiful table and share good food, good conversation, and great stories. This table was set for our March Book Club, and I used the Poetry Summer Soirée box from Host The Event.

Everything came together beautifully—layered green dinner plates from Poetry that feel like leafy blooms, along with these playful white side plates from The Detailsmith that read, “Chef was cute, would eat here again”. The handcrafted Laguiole bone & gold cutlery finished off the look perfectly.

Each place setting sits atop a woven placemat. I love the idea of not using a tablecloth on our steel-top dining room table because the exposed steel surface always creates a more edgy aesthetic. The magnificent ribbed Ngwenya glassware – with a hint of green – makes any drink more enjoyable.

For the centrepiece, I used a low glass vase filled with white blooms, wild sprigs & textured stems. It grounds the table with an organic touch. And those mismatched chairs? Well, one day we may have eight or ten matching chairs, but for now they make it feel like home.

There’s something incredibly special about creating space for friends, food & stories. And whether you’re deep into a literary classic, devouring the latest thriller—or just there for the food—it’s all worth celebrating.

Apart from a Book Club, I am also toying with the idea of a Cookbook Club. Have you heard of this concept? Is this something that you will join?
